There is no topic more confusing than that of color. A lot of artists seem to “eyeball” their color. That may work if you’ve been painting for forty plus years. Bill often acknowledges that he knows what a color will look like before he starts mixing. You’ll notice he rarely has to correct his color before he puts it on the canvas.
For the rest of us, we need to study color more carefully.
That’s why we created our “Yellow, Red, and Blue” Art Course. It’s designed to get students used to a limited palette. We can not overemphasize the importance of knowing how to create your colors.
We’ve written about the three characteristics of color. Hue, Intensity, and value affect colors in different ways. Mixing only three or four different colors can create an infinite variety of color. No wonder painters struggle!
