“Leave it very loose.”

Finished! Bill's final strokes touch up the bottom of his painting. This technique video is one of two we have for our Silver members on the palette knife. Of course, we have many palette knife only videos of Bill's. Check out "Vase by Knife" in our free members' area. That video takes the techniques Bill showed you in this series and creates a completed painting. Previous … [Read more...]

Bill switches to the big knife to finish off this project. Remember, this is a technique video. This was not intended to be a finished painting. Bill was demonstrating a number of techniques with the palette knife. Try these at home on your own canvas. See how wonderful the knife Bill invented is to use. He knows it will because it's just more of the same paint, just a different color. He also advises you not to worry if the paint doesn't go on exactly right. Nature is not perfect. Even the most beautiful flower has … [Read more...]

“From the light into the dark!”

Notice how much paint Bill is laying onto this canvas. Bill was a master of using thick paint. We've talked before about the three-dimensional effect he gets in his paintings by using his paint almost as a sculpting medium. Freeze frame this video at about the :23 second mark and look at the layers of paint he has on this flower! Previous Lesson: Keep the knife … [Read more...]
