Put a bit of sunshine on there!

Watch how easily Bill gets the paint to highlight his mountain on the left. Why does it come off so easily? Could it be that he hasn’t worked that area of the canvas for a while? Maybe the paint dried a bit? Certainly his technique is so honed that it only takes a light touch to get the paint off the palette knife. Bill is in the “groove” in this clip. He talks about “pulling with the swing of the mountain”. Look at those big strokes! And, don’t forget, don’t highlight light against light! Notice how he keeps enough dark to contrast with the distant mountains.
