Mix on the canvas!

We suspect that many wet-on-wet artists have no idea why the canvas is covered with Magic White™. We read a post recently claiming that (another vendor’s covering) was to help the paint “move” on the canvas. As Bill explains in this video he “invented” Magic White™ to make it easier to mix colors directly on the canvas. Anyone who has painted wet-on-wet knows it’s pretty easy to get paint to “move” on the canvas – in fact, too easy sometimes. Pay particular attention in this clip how Bill “pushes” the paint into the canvas. He applies a lot of pressure on the brush at the top of the painting and lightens pressure as he moves down the canvas. This helps keep that first layer very thin.
