Use this technique to get perspective in your sky
There are several things to learn from today’s Video Tip.
Key Points To Consider:
- The background layer is thin.
- Bill uses thick paint for the clouds.
- He uses a lot of pressure and is moving the brush in all directions to create variety.
- The Fan Brush picks up the background color and pollutes the brush. Bill cleans it before reloading his brush.
- The clouds at the top of the canvas are larger because they represent the clouds closest to the viewer.
- As Bill moves down the canvas the clouds get smaller.
- Bill applies less pressure and uses less paint for the smaller clouds.
- It is important to not go over the top of the clouds once the color is applied. If the clouds are overworked, the cloud color will mix with the background color and become one value. The detail and variety will be lost
- Before Bill hypnotizes (softens) the sky, he lifts the extra paint from the clouds with his palette knife.
- The Blending brush will soften the edges of the clouds without removing the paint.
Happy Painting!
