Daily Tips Day 344 Diane

Thin paint sticks to thick paint again!

In this video, Diane will add foliage to the foreground.

Key Points To Consider:

  • Diane is painting on a wet background.
  • She goes back to the dark green base. It is a thick firm mixture.
  • First Diane applies the darks by loading the brush thoroughly.
  • She allows the “spring” of the 1″ Brush to work in her favor.
  • She doesn’t “paint” the canvas. She taps and lifts.
  • Notice she had to work really hard to cover the light spot that was on the canvas. She worked and worked to get it covered. This is because the paint was thick. Thick paint doesn’t stick to thick paint.
  • She dips the brush into Magic White to loosen the highlight color. The thin paint easily attaches to the thick paint already applied.
  • Diane allows some of the dark to show through to separate the rows of foliage.

We hope you are enjoying this project by Diane. Oh, how we wish we had many more by Diane!

Happy Painting!
