Bill Creates a Crock on a Black Canvas
We couldn’t wait to show you what Bill did with that black canvas! Remember how he talked about how much brighter colors look with a black background? This video tip shows you just what he means.
Key Points To Consider:
- Watch yesterday’s video to see how he prepared the canvas.
- Remember, we no longer recommend you use thinner clean your brushes. We have a safer way now. Let us know if you want to know how.
- Bill uses a dry brush, to begin with. He makes sure the darks on his canvas are pushed in deeply and evenly.
- He uses Alexander Permanent Red to paint the table.
- He starts the table by painting at the very bottom edge of the canvas.
- Notice he always paints in the direction of the object. For example, when he paints the table he uses long horizontal strokes. When he paints the crock, he uses straight vertical strokes.
- As he paints the table his brush loses the red paint and picks up the dark paint on the background. This gives him the perspective he is looking for.
- Bill cleans his brush often and keeps the background paint thin.
We do hope you will follow along. Get a canvas, paint it black, and go for it! You will get this entire lesson over time.
Happy Painting!
