No offense to the Mona Lisa! Bill and Diane make a good point though.
Today Diane and Bill continue to talk about the wet-on-wet technique while Diane shows us how to add trees to the dark base. As they are talking about the technique they mention that “art” is subjective. What is art to one person may not speak to another. Bill points out that sometimes regardless of the quality of the art it may gain popularity. Just because it is popular doesn’t mean that it speaks to everyone.
Points to Consider:
- Diane mixes the color she wants on the palette before she thins the paint with Magic White.
- Because the Magic White is in a can or an open container, she is able to dip into the paint with her dirty brush. The reason it doesn’t contaminate the Magic White in the can is that thin paint sticks to thick paint so the white goes to the brush. You want to avoid touching the sides or the bottom of the container.
- We sell our Magic White in airless pumps to extend the shelf life. We recommend that you squirt out just enough on your palette and add more as you go.
- One of the things Bill always said was “I want to finish my painting before I fall out of love with it.” This is what Diane and Bill are talking about when they say painting wet-on-wet gives you a chance to use your creative power. Have you ever started a painting that you “fell out of love with?”
- Notice Diane leaves a dark space between trees. This is what gives the illusion of trees. If she didn’t it wouldn’t look like a forest but just another color on the canvas.
